Dave and Charlie are longtime Bay Area favorites known for clear, playful, welcoming classes that help new dancers feel comfortable fast. Their teaching blends strong Lindy Hop fundamentals, rhythm, connection, and social dance know-how — with a warm style that keeps class useful, musical, and fun.

Do I need a partner?

No. All students rotate in class, so you will meet many friendly dancers to practice with.

Do I need dance experience?

No. This class is designed for beginners.

Swing, Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing… what’s the difference?

Swing is the umbrella term for a family of partner dances connected to swing music.

Lindy Hop is the original classic swing dance, born in Harlem in the late 1920s and ’30s. It’s joyful, rhythmic, social, and great for dancing to live jazz.

East Coast Swing is a simpler, later style often taught in ballroom studios. It’s usually compact and beginner-friendly.

West Coast Swing is a smoother, modern style danced in a slot, often to blues, R&B, pop, and contemporary music.

At Cat’s Corner, our beginner classes focus on Lindy Hop — the vintage jazz dance that gets you moving, connecting, and having fun on the social dance floor.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes that breathe well and shoes that stay on your feet. Smooth-ish soles are best. High heel shoes and boots not recommended. If you tend to sweat a lot, bring an extra shirt and hand towel to wipe off.

What if I miss a week?

Come to the next class and we’ll help you catch up.

Can I come with a friend and/or partner?

Yes — but each person registers individually. During class, all students rotate. During the dance party, you can dance with your partner all you like.

What happens after class?

Your registration includes admission to the dance party, so you can stay, listen to the band, and try a few dances.

What’s the difference between the Progressive Lindy Hop Classes and the Drop-in Swing Classes?

Progressive Lindy Hop Classes (8-9 PM) are monthly series that build week by week and require advance registration. They’re best if you want to really learn Lindy Hop.

Drop-in Swing Classes (9-9:30 PM) are single beginner-friendly lessons before the dance party. No registration, partner, or experience needed — just show up and try it.
