Dear Cat’s Corner Friends:

Cease and Desist Letter-page-001It’s with sincere regret that I must inform you that Cats Corner was early this morning served with a Cease and Desist Letter from another Cat’s Corner dance party in Montreal, asserting their trademark rights over the name “Cat’s Corner” and ordering us to stop using the name for our business and website, effective immediately.

The notice caught us off guard to say the least, especially after our spectacular First Year Anniversary Party just last week, but after some frantic phone calls this morning, it appears to be a legitimate claim. Unfortunately, dance party founder Catrine Ljunggren and I neglected to officially register “Cat’s Corner” as our official business name back in 2006 when we re-opened the dance party at Savanna Jazz Club. What seemed like a minor detail back then is shaping up to have major present-day repercussions.

What Does This Mean For the Dance Party?

First off, don’t worry! Our amazing Wednesday Night Swing Dance Party will continue at Balancoire Night Club, but the name has been changed effective immediately to “Nate’s Nook”, to avoid the infringement issues.

Also, our new website is:

We will continue with the same great event format with amazing Live Music, Lindy Hop & Swing Dance Classes, Full Bar & Restaurant, and lots of fun people every…just with a new name.

While we’re a little sad to lose a name tied to the history of the Savoy Ballroom with lots of great personal memories attached, a small consolation is that the new name manages to maintain the fun alliteration of our original (Nate’s Nook vs. Cat’s Corner). Even better, one of the dictionary definitions of “nook” is actually “corner”!

We know the new name will take some getting used to, and it will also take a few days to fully update all our website and marketing materials.

Nonetheless, please join us at tonight’s dance party as we raise our glasses in salute and bid farewell to our old name, and usher in a new era of fun times and fantastic dance parties!

We appreciate your understanding,

Nathan & the Nate’s Nook Team
